MAG Contemporary was founded out of Modern Art Gallery's long-standing commitment to artistic dialogue. Building on MAG's roots in the heritage precincts of Kashmere Gate and our presence in Chanakyapuri, MAG Contemporary expands the gallery's cultural reach through a focused, collaborative institution — one where experimentation, mentorship, and risk-taking are not just welcomed, but expected.
We champion emerging practices and new voices, giving space to the artists shaping what Indian contemporary art looks like next.
Focus on Emerging Practices
We prioritize artists who push material, conceptual, and formal boundaries — work that experiments with new media, interdisciplinary approaches, and formats that challenge traditional exhibition conventions.
Every year, we curate six thematic exhibitions, each one introducing new artists and new ideas into our programme — a continual influx of fresh perspectives and artistic energy.
By the end of this financial year, MAG Contemporary will have worked with 35 emerging artists — a reflection of our fast-growing network and our sustained commitment to the next generation of practitioners.
The MAG Grant
Our dedicated grant program exists to nurture early-career artists — with financial support, production assistance, and promotional platforms including solo or group exhibitions, catalogue features, and advisory time with mentors.
The grant prioritizes artists experimenting with non-traditional media and practices, with a deliberate emphasis on equitable opportunities for underrepresented makers — and a particular focus on growing the number of female artists in our programme.

Exhibition Programme & Our Artists
Our annual schedule spans six curated shows across diverse thematic frameworks. Each exhibition introduces new artists to our roster and our audience — expanding the network with every edition.

India Art Fair
MAG has participated in India Art Fair every year since 2021. With MAG Contemporary, we bring this institutional experience to the fair with a deliberate strategy: presenting artists who have never before exhibited at a major fair, highlighting new mediums and experimentation, and introducing bold, under-seen work — particularly by female artists.
Mentorship & Community
MAG Contemporary is built on long-term collaborations with mentors and advisors from across the arts ecosystem — voices who help shape our programme strategy, artist development, and public engagement.
Since our inception, we've worked with mentors and advisors including Keshav Mahendru, Amit Jain, Poonji Nath, Jesal Thacker, Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi, Adwait Singh, Gigi Scaria, and Anica Mann. This year, we're working with Yash Vikram.
We refresh our mentorship network every two years — bringing in new perspectives and expanding opportunities for artists, so our community stays dynamic and responsive.
Space & Capacity
Recently renovated to reflect our expansion plans, MAG Contemporary's space is designed for flexible presentation formats, residency-style projects, and experimental installations — built to support ambitious curatorial concepts and the technical needs of works across media.
